Q. If you are running Mcafee 8 VirusScan and you enabled
the "Buffer Overflow Protection", you will not see the Icons on the left panel,
the text in the "Warning!" and the "System Information" popup (Please see the
picture). Why? A. There is a known issue with McAfee VirusScan. It
was fixed in the patch VSE80P11.
Q. Software --> Secrets freezes my computer. Why? A. If Kaspersky Antivirus is running, stop it (or disable
the "Proactive Defence").
Q. My firewall triggers an alarm (this program is
trying to transmit e-mail messages). Why? A. SIW checks if the local machine is running an SMTP
server. A firewall may trigger a false alarm
SIW checks if the local machine is running any of following servers: pcAnywhere,
VNC, RDP, SQL Server, Oracle, HTTP, Telnet, SSH, FTP, SMTP, POP3, IMAP4, LDAP, XDMCP. Click here to see a picture
Q. How can I check the version of PCIDEVS file? A. Tools --> Test --> Debug Info; PCI Database
Q. PCIDEVS used by SIW is old. How can I use the latest
version? A. Save PCIDEVS from here in the
SIW's directory
Q. Why does SIW show incorrect system information? A. The reliability and accuracy of DMI information depends
on the manufacturer of the motherboard or the computer (when a brand computer).
When vendors do not take the time to fill in the DMI tables properly, all applications
reading DMI will indicate the same wrong information. This is not the fault of SIW.
