SIW (Tech Edition) Hangs Machine
#1

Just purchased a new machine and when attempting to run my Technician Version of SIW, the mouse starts out moving very slowly and after about 5 seconds the machine is unresponsive. That was using Ver 10.5.0902d. I downloaded a new version (10.6.0.4) thinking it may correct the issue, however the problem still exists. Was unable to even get to a point where I could enter registration information. Below are the high level specs for the machine.

  • ROG Crosshair VIII Formula, AMD X570 Chipset, AM4, ATX Motherboard

  • Ryzen™ 9 5950X

  • EVGA GeForce RTX™ 3080

  • 64 GB RAM

  • Windows 10 Pro
Wasn't sure if this was a problem seen before or what my next steps would be.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Please save this siw.ini file in the same folder with siw.exe and let me know if it solves the issue.

Thanks for the file. Unfortunately, the problem does still exist after putting the INI file into the folder with the executable.

After executing step #3 from the link above, I did not get the hang condition. I went through setting each line = 1 , one at a time, and started the program with no issues after each edit. Out of curiosity, I set all values to the original INI file you referenced where each line = 1, except UseACPI, and it exhibits the same response initially described. Over the course of about 15 seconds, the mouse moves increasingly slower to the point of stopping. I am unable to get response from mouse or keyboard.

As a side note, I left process explorer running in my second monitor so I could watch it when I started SIW with the original INI file. Process explorer quit updating as well. Not sure if this helps or not, but one thing I noticed is that normally I'd see a message in the bottom right corner stating CPUID started in x.xxx seconds. This time I noted that it said CPUID SDK starting 5.782 seconds and never says "started" with the green icon to the left of it.

1. Please set them all to 1.
2. Set one by one to 0 and run siw

Please execute step #9 from https://www.gtopala.com/forum/Thread-Wha...lue-screen

I will set them all to 1 and see if one of them at a value of 0 will correct the issue. Not crazy about having to hard boot my system that many times though. Maybe I will get lucky and it will be one of the first settings.

On another note, I ran the latest version of CPUZ and pulled the information from the About screen as you said. When I saved the file, the machine mouse started the slow moving again and then hung. The file did write out though. I have attached to this message. I rebooted the machine and started CPUZ again and move through all of the tabs and such  with no machine hangs. Again though, as soon as I attempted to save the file from the About page, the machine hung. This time hit hung before it could complete writing the file to disk.

Will let you know the results of step #1 above.

Thanks

After setting the flags in the cpuz.ini file listed to 0, the hang still happens. I still have not had the chance yet to do the same for all of the settings in your INI file yet, but after seeing what CPU-Z is doing, I am wondering if that still needs to be done.

Wasn't sure if it was was related to the new AMD 5950X possibly. Haven't seen issues with other programs on my machine, "yet".  Confused

Please try (from command prompt) siw64.exe /nosdk
